An Air Operated Diaphragm Pump (AODD pump), also known as a pneumatic diaphragm pump, is a type of positive displacement pump that utilizes compressed air as its power source, distinguishing it from other pumps like hydraulic pumps or water pumps. It features a diaphragm driven by an air motor, which oscillates to create suction on one side and discharge on the other, enabling efficient fluid transfer. Unlike hydraulic pumps that rely on hydraulic fluid or water pumps designed for water priming, AODD pumps excel in handling diverse fluids without requiring self-priming in many cases.

The versatility of AODD pumps makes them a preferred industrial pump for various applications. They can manage abrasive, corrosive, and viscous materials, including sludges and slurry-like substances often handled by sewage pumps.
